How do I become a Host Employer
So you realise the benefits and advantages your establishment will gain through hosting an apprentice or trainee through HGT so what are the next steps?

Firstly you need to Contact us at our office directly to discuss your options and arrange for one of our staff to come and see you alternatively you may register your interest here and one of our staff will be in contact with you to soon.

How to recruit through HGT

Upon request, HGT will establish a short list based on your requirements and send suitable applicants to you for interviewing prior to placement. Interviewing applicants through HGT does not obligate you - the final decision is yours.

Alternatively, an existing member of your staff may be suitable for a career opportunity. You may wish to consider them for an apprenticeship / traineeship, and can liase with HGT throughout this process.

Our employees


First Year Apprentices have either completed HGT's Pre-vocational course, an accredited Certificate of Cookery course or have at least six (6) months industry experience. This ensures applicants have displayed the necessary attributes needed to succeed in the industry. Hospitality Group Training also employs apprentices of all year levels, and these are available as required.

Trainees  employed through Hospitality Group Training have either completed an accredited course in the relevant field, have gained some basic experience in the industry or have displayed the necessary attributes to succeed in the industry.

Responsibilities of a Host Employer

  • Provide full time work ie. a minimum 38 hours each week
  • Comply with the provisions of  HGT's Collective Agreement effective 1st October 2007
  • Provide work and training appropriate to the employees year level and skill/knowledge
  • Release the apprentices and trainees for "off-the-job" training as per agreed schedules
  • Provide appropriate induction and a safe workplace
  • Assist in the completion of quarterly workplace perfomance assessments
  • Assist in the performance management process ie. daily discipline and staff control and notify HGT in the event of any problems and issues
  • Direct Debit of your account on a fortnightly basis

Once initial discussions have been made regarding the requirements of your establishment you will need to complete all the host employer paperwork provided by HGT and return to us for processing. We will begin creating a short list of applicants to be presented to you for interviewing. Once applicants are interviewed the final decision is yours regarding who you require for placement and a start date is negotiated between you and HGT. All our applicants are fully inducted by HGT prior to their placement to ensure they are fully aware of their obligations as an employee.
