The peak State awards for vocational education and training (VET), hosted by the South Australian Training and Skills Commission, recognise innovation and excellence in the training sector.



The awards aim to recognise individuals for their efforts and achievements and encourage them to realise their potential and build their careers. They also aim to raise the profile of skills and reward businesses and organisations for innovative approaches to training that help to develop our industries and workforce.

Key Dates 2009

  • 24 March - Nominations open
  • 29 May - Nominations close
  • 1 & 6 April - Workshops for potential nominees
  • June/July - Judging process
  • 4 September - SA Training Awards dinner
  • 19 November - Australian Training Awards dinner

Award Opportunities

As the State’s most prestigious awards for vocational education and training, the South Australian Training Awards offer a unique opportunity for individuals and enterprises to be recognised for their contribution to training.

Students may:

  • attain a lifelong achievement which can be displayed on their resumes
  • explore new employment opportunities
  • have an opportunity to represent South Australia at the national awards
  • travel within South Australia and Australia
  • win great prizes.

For enterprises, training providers and schools winning an award can:

  • raise organisation profile as an innovative leader of vocational education and training
  • boost client base through increased industry and community profile
  • increase credibility within specific industry area further enhancing professional image
  • acknowledge and recognise staff and/or students.

The nominating process enables applicants to:

  • reflect on what they’re currently doing
  • benchmark their training programs
  • be measured against “best practice” criteria.

All winners are ambassadors of training at the State level and receive exposure in both print and electronic media.

Apply as a Student

There are five categories in which students can apply for the South Australian Training Awards the peak state awards for vocational education and training (VET) that aim to recognise individuals for their efforts and achievements and encourage them to realise their potential and build their careers:

  • Apprentice of the Year
  • Australian School-based Apprentice of the Year
  • Trainee of the Year
  • Vocational Student of the Year
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year.

Winners of each student award category will receive $3,000 in prize money and a trophy. Winners will also represent South Australia at the 2009 Australian Training Awards.

Does it cost anything to nominate?

Entry is FREE! There is no nomination fee to apply for any award. The only costs involved are related to time and effort required to complete the assessment criteria.

Will I get my picture in the paper?

Winners receive media attention including television exposure through advertisements produced as part of the post-award promotional campaign.
