What is Group Training

Group training is an employment and training arrangement where an organisation (EG: HGT) employs apprentices and trainees under a contract of training and then places them with host employers (EG: establishments throughout SA).

The group training organisation undertakes the employer responsibilities for the apprentice’ and trainee’s employment and training. The group training organisation also manages the support and guidance necessary to achieve the successful completion of the training contract.

Goals of group training are to:

          • Create additional Australian Apprenticeship employment opportunities that may not have existed
          • Provide for continuity of employment of Australian Apprentices through to the completion of their contract of training
          • Improve the quality and breadth of training to Australian Apprentices, particularly in small to medium sized business

A set of national standards for group training organisations has been developed to provide a framework to strengthen the capacity of GTO’s to achieve their goals. Compliance with the national standards is mandatory for GTO’s seeking eligibility for government funding.
