HGT EMPLOYEE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

HGT has introduced the HGT Achievement Award, a new and exciting program to encourage excellence in the industry and reward our outstanding performers.
The Award will be presented every 3 months, and the winning Apprentice and Trainee for that period will be presented with a $100 TRIMS Gift Voucher. TRIMS have partnered HGT in this award and the voucher will enable winners to purchase goods of their choice to the value of $100 from TRIMS.

  LISA DOECKE - APPRENTICE

Lisa Doecke is a Third Year Apprentice working as part of a team of six chefs at Jacob's Restaurant under the direction of Orlando Wines Executive Chef Veronica Zahra.  Located within the Jacob’s Creek Visitor Centre, Jacob’s Restaurant offers a seven-day a week bistro style lunch menu. Guests to Jacob’s Restaurant enjoy a high quality wine and food experience that is complimented by views of vineyards and the famous BarossaRanges.

The Jacob's Restaurant menu changes on a seasonal basis and features dishes made from fresh produce with all key elements housemade on-site.  The menu is presented with wine recommendations from our winemakers for each of the dishes.  The restaurant won the award at the 2007 South Australian Tourism Awards for the best tourism restaurant in the state.

Lisa joined the team in August 2007 and her knowledge, enthusiasm and skills have improved immensely since that time.  She has been preparing and presenting platters, cold entrees, pizzas and flat breads and desserts on a daily basis and is now providing suggestions for dessert items for new menus.  She has become a valuable member of the kitchen team and we look forward to supporting her development of her career further in 2008/9.

 KYLE HOPGOOD - TRAINEE


Kyle Hopgood is a first year Food and Beverage trainee at The Lakes Resort Hotel. He is currently placed in the Bottleshop. Since Kyle started at The Lakes resort, he has continued to dvelop his customer service skills. Through the support Kyle has received from the hotel, including Damien, the bottleshop manager, Kyle has continued to excel in this department. The Lakes Resort has also put Kyle through a training course to get his forklift licence, so this has been good or both Kyle and The Lakes for his continued development. The Lakes resort is comitted to the continued development and training of its staff and they are a great supporter of HGT, with currently 5 apprentices and trainees placed there.

HGT GRADUATION AND AWARD CEREMONY

Each year, HGT holds its Graduation and Awards Ceremony to recognise publicly the successful graduates of the past year. This is an excellent event  designed to showcase our graduates and also those currently working towards a successful completion by presenting awards such as outstanding achievements and apprentice or trainee of the year (for each year level). Attendees at the graduation and awards dinner include the graduates, hoteliers, industry representatives and dignitaries including the Minister for Employment, Training and Further Education.

The evening is to celebrate the hard work and dedication of each graduate who has successfully completed either an apprenticeship or traineeship during the previous year, in addition, and in conjunction with participating host employers, it is an opportunity to recognise the award nominees for their outstanding commitment to the industry and their chosen vocation.
